22 Feb Virgin Galactic Camp Eclipse – Party Recap
Do you remember where you were for the Solar Eclipse last year? Because we sure do. If you recall, people from all over the world were traveling to be in the path of totality to witness the event last summer. We couldn’t have imagined a better way to spend it than at a 4 day long party organized by Virgin Galactic. We took our outdoor event planning skills to the (very) wide open spaces of Tetonia, Idaho, where we set up camp for the 200+ guests who gathered from all over the world for a few days to watch the phenomenon.
We were contacted directly by Virgin Galactic to produce their “Camp Eclipse.” They knew that the path of totality meant they were going to have to host the event in an off the grid location, especially since they started planning after most hotels near the path had been booked for years. Their team of astronomers chose Idaho as the best location because of the length of totality in that region, as well as the low chance of cloud cover-Tetonia, ID to be specific. This meant we were setting up amongst cow pastures.
As far as planning goes, it truly took a village to piece this viewing together. We scouted numerous ranches to find the best fit and finally landed on one that we thought would be the best location for our outer space friends. Being in such a secluded area meant that we had to research and pull in vendors from all over. We had 75 vendors come in from 4 different states and two countries in order to pull this off.
Inspired by the beauty of Idaho and the ranch culture there, we tried to keep the look and feel one with the space with some nods to space and the eclipse. We set up 129 Meriwether sleeping tents, 2 Sami lounge tipis, 1 getting ready tipi, 1 bar tipi, 5 Amelia lounge tents, and 5 Armstrong check-in/amenity tents.
Planning this event for Virgin Galactic was a definite highlight of 2017. Being able to witness a scientific phenomenon with some of the biggest astronomy buffs out there was a once in a lifetime experience, and we loved the opportunity to work with a company that is at the forefront of commercial space travel. Our whole team fell in love with Idaho and the people we met there. If you’re ever in Tetonia do not miss the rodeo! It was amazing. We look forward to planning more outdoor events like this in the future and hey, we may see you at the eclipse in Chile in 2019!
